Il Venerdì Santo a Orte , una passione lunga 800 anni
Una delle rievocazioni più suggestive della Tuscia è quella della processione del Cristo morto di Orte che si svolge nella cittadina viterbese il Venerdì Santo prima di Pasqua. Questo evento richiama ogni anno nella cittadina migliaia di persone dove le Confraternite Riunite di Orte portano avanti questa tradizione dal 1200 mantenendo la solita forma. I gruppi delle confraternite tra le più longeve d'Italia si ritrovano nel tardo pomeriggio del Venerdì santo nella piazza del centro storico per dar vita alla Processione. Arriva la notte e pesanti catene vengono trascinate dai piedi scalzi dei cirenei piegati sotto il peso della pesante croce, che portano per espiare i peccati. Sono cinquecento i partecipanti al corteo, tra confratelli e figuranti, le strade vengono illuminate soltanto dalle fiamme tremolanti delle torce con momenti toccanti in tutta la celebrazione accampagnati dal "Miserere".
Good Friday in Orte, an 800-yaer passion
One of the most evocative re-enactments of Tuscia is that of the procession of the dead Christ of Orte which takes place in the town of Viterbo on Good Friday before Easter. This event attracts thousands of people to the town every year where the Confraternite Riunite di Orte have been carrying on this tradition since 1200 maintaining the usual form. The groups of the longest-lived confraternities in Italy meet in the late afternoon of Good Friday in the square of the historic center to start the Procession. Night comes and heavy chains are dragged by the bare feet of the Cyreneans bent under the weight of the heavy cross, which they carry to atone for their sins. There are five hundred participants in the procession, including brothers and extras, the streets are illuminated only by the flickering flames of the torches with touching moments throughout the celebration accompanied by the "Miserere".
